Our mission is to provide free, anonymous, and science-based guidance to help you make safer, more informed decisions about improving your home’s wildfire resistance. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable laws, including GDPR and CCPA. Information We Collect
We collect as little information as possible to provide you with a functional, reliable, and anonymous experience. Information collected may include:
- Information you voluntarily provide:
- If you choose to subscribe to updates or newsletters, we may collect your email address.
- If you contact us through our website, we may collect your name, email, and message content.
- Automatically collected information (non-identifiable):
- Technical information such as browser type, device type, operating system, and IP address (which is anonymized and not linked to you personally).
- General analytics data (e.g., page views, time on page) collected through tools such as Google Analytics, used only to improve functionality and performance.
- Information related to home characteristics:
- When you use the Built for Wildfire tool, you may enter data about your home’s location, building materials, or features to generate wildfire retrofit recommendations. This data is not linked to your identity or any contact information and is used solely to generate your results in real time.
We do not collect personally identifiable information such as names, mailing addresses, or precise geolocation data unless you voluntarily provide it (for instance, through a contact form or newsletter subscription).

Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We may disclose aggregate or de-identified data (that does not identify any individual) for research or reporting purposes consistent with our nonprofit mission. We may also share information with trusted service providers that help us operate our websites, such as website hosting or analytics tools, provided that these providers are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of your information. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect Headwaters’ rights, safety, or property, or that of our users.
We will never sell, trade, or otherwise transfer personal information to third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

- Email addresses collected for newsletters or contact purposes are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Technical and analytical data are retained only in aggregated or anonymized form.
When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted.

These include:
- Encryption of communications using HTTPS;
- Limited access to data by authorized personnel only;

- Use of reputable cloud providers with strong security certifications.
While we strive to protect your information, no method of internet transmission is completely secure. You use the Platform at your own risk.
